Short Answer
If your medication is prescribed on the NHS, a standard prescription charge of £9.90 per item applies unless you're exempt. If you have an exemption certificate, let us know and we won't charge you.
Who Is Exempt?
You don't pay NHS prescription charges if you:
- Are 60 or over
- Are under 16 (or under 19 in full-time education)
- Are pregnant or had a baby in the last 12 months
- Have certain medical conditions (e.g. diabetes, epilepsy, cancer)
- Receive certain benefits (e.g. Universal Credit with low income, Income Support)
- Have a valid NHS prepayment certificate (PPC)
- Are a war pensioner with an exemption
How to Tell Us About Your Exemption
When we send you a payment request, reply with your exemption type and certificate number (if applicable). We'll update your records so future orders are processed correctly.
Prepayment Certificates
If you pay for regular prescriptions, an NHS prepayment certificate can save you money. You can buy one at nhsbsa.nhs.uk or by calling 0300 330 1341.
